A Sky News Poll published recently, showed that 36% would support Green Taxes to reduce Carbon emissions whilst 41% oppose it.
Taxes themselves are not going to work, it’s a short term fix for sure, but it has to link into a full Environmental and Social strategy right now I can’t see that fluency in any political plan, currently being touted by the UK Government. No political party yet has such a full plan, and all we see are sound bites that will only feed the Vampires we elected right across the Political spectrum.
Respectfully we see the Government is committing to a Net Zero by 2050, but yet it’s committed to creating thousands of more jobs. A worthy aspiration and we can’t really argue it’s not a good thing to do. It is in fact a great thing to do, but as long as we operate in a Post Modern Civilisation, consumption and attitudes need to change.
If we’re going to have more jobs then without a Plan B, we’ll need more consumption and that will require and generate more taxes, particularly if Government is going to take responsibility, solely or jointly, to ensure we meet the targets.
Taxes go on products and strangely enough, the poorest and JAMs as well as those well off will all be buying products and have to pay these taxes. Many people will and do get into debt, just to buy the latest Gadget or Appliance or any household item. All without always truly thinking how they are contributing to an ever increasing waste stream and the damage it causes.
Society is a paradox because on the one hand it’s telling us to Waste Less and International Targets on Waste Prevention need to be met. So if that’s true, we need more Waste to fuel the businesses who help meet the targets. Even Local Authorities fall into this scope and everyone is after your waste then, or in some cases fines will ensue, or the business will go bust. (We intend to help you sell your Materials for community and personal benefit. More about that later.)
Then we have in the same paradox, retailers, manufacturers and trade associations wanting to sell us new energy saving products, but who don’t factor into their sales metrics the cost to the environment for removing and transporting items from the community, dismantling them, and reprocessing the materials. All of which uses up fuel, energy and pollutes the environment with harmful gases. In addition to that, any jobs they create, are not where you live, which is where you need to work, if you’re reducing your own Carbon Footprint and Energy Demands.
Did we mention the debt problem that many people get themselves into just to keep up with the Jones’s and show off the latest gadgets? Yes, you can talk to your fridge now and it will talk back telling you what you need, so you don’t have to get up and walk to open a door and work out with your brain, what’s running low in the fridge. Exercise and a Functioning brain help stave off dementia, so where is technology taking us we ask?
